As we begin the Underhill Society of America’s 2026 Annual Fund Drive, we invite you to help honor our shared heritage and sustain the work that keeps the Underhill story alive for generations to come. Your membership and tax-deductible contribution make this work possible: preserving family archives, publishing genealogical research, sharing educational publications, and making Underhill history available to researchers, family members, libraries, and future generations.

Publication of Underhill Genealogy Volumes IX, X, and XI is moving forward. This three-volume, approximately 3,000-page set will be the most current and comprehensive genealogy of Capt. John Underhill’s descendants. The Underhill Society of America provides complimentary sets to more than 80 libraries and historical societies across the United States and Canada, giving researchers, family members, and future generations access to this work. Our volunteer genealogist also continues to update the genealogy of other Underhill families that migrated to North America. Although this long-term project will take time to complete, it reflects the Society’s continuing commitment to documenting the broader Underhill family story.

Your donations help us pay a professional archivist to oversee and care for the many Underhill family archives housed in our rented Underhill Archives office in Oyster Bay, New York. The archives are available for viewing by Underhill family members and external researchers. This work ensures that unique historical documents, personal family histories, and numerous Underhill artifacts are professionally preserved for family members, researchers, and future generations. Donations also help us purchase proper preservation materials so these artifacts are cared for appropriately. Important Underhill historical artifacts have been found and purchased by the Society, including a letter written by Civil War soldier Daniel Isaac Underhill to his sister, Hannah; a New York brass railroad conductor lantern manufactured by Samuel Bowne Underhill; and other wonderful finds. We have also received several donations from members and non-members, including two donations with more than 150 individual items such as family portraits, photographs, land indenture deeds dated in the late 1700s, scrapbooks, wills, and much more.

In addition, the Society publishes a newsletter, News &Views, and an annual educational publication, the Bulletin, featuring articles about historic events and Underhill family members. The Society also donates copies of the Bulletin and News & Views to numerous libraries and historical societies across the United States and Canada for research purposes.

Every contribution, large or small, helps the Society preserve records, make research accessible, and share Underhill history with present and future generations.
